Everyone thinks they suck at startup web marketing {sometimes}.

You feel like you have the tiger by the tail and you are on to something BIG. Great! You have the passion, but how to do you tune others into your passion and get them feeling the same way?

None of the traditional methods are working work because your market has never been marketed too. Hell, sometimes you even have to create the damn market yourself, never mind market to an existing one. As Eric Reise would but it, “you are operating in an environment of extreme uncertainty“, and you have no clue what will work. Some things you might consider trying are:

  • Social [paid] Meida – and everything that falls under it
  • Webinars
  • IRL Events and collateral
  • Blogger outreach
  • Data analytics and insight
  • Paid Media
  • Content marketing
  • Video Marketing
  • Product Support
  • A/B testing
  • SEO
  • Community growth
  • Product usage report
  • Partnership growth and relationship management
  • and on and on and on…

Luckily, no one expect you to know everything, and while its good to be hard on yourself, you can take solace in the fact that we are all in the same boat.

Pick your battles and play to your and yours, companies strengths. That’s what this blog is all about.

I am currently marketing a BigData Product that simply wasn’t even possible to make to make until 2013 and even now its still in beta as we simultaneously innovate the genre we created. We’ve put down more pivots than Scotty Pippin and as we push forward into a blindingly bright future we have to face the sun and walk into it knowing that we will stumble, probably miss a few things, but hopefully we will get where we are going by segmenting markets, driving signups, adopting new technology and software.

Follow me as I try to bring import.io to the world and introduce as many people as possible to the data awesomeness. I’ll mostly post pictures of Doge and long dead Memes, but occasionally I might just post a nugget of startup marketing gold that might help you on your own journey to the promised land of IPO, Acquisition, or Altruistic tech Nirvana.

market doesn't exist yet?
